Program Overview

The Health Care Administration Program stresses the importance of health care information systems

Like all businesses, the business of healthcare needs good management and leadership to run smoothly. As a Health Care Administrator, you will be in charge... a manager/leader who may oversee the operation of a single department or an entire healthcare facility.

To make effective decisions, Health Care Administrators must understand basic business principles such as: finance, information systems, strategic planning, human resources, and marketing. Strong leadership abilities (i.e. diplomacy, mentoring, flexibility, and communication) will be essential to your success. Entering the profession, you may be responsible for establishing and implementing the policies and objectives of a specific clinical area or department within a facility. You may be required to train and evaluate personnel, develop reports and budgets, and coordinate activities with other managers. With experience and an advanced degree, Health Care Administrators may move into executive management positions in which they could be responsible for millions of dollars of facilities and equipment, as well as hundreds of employees.

The Bachelor of Science in Health Care Administration will prepare you for leadership roles within the healthcare industry. Our B.S. program integrates a minor in Business Administration to reinforce development of the strong management skills for which our graduates are known. The 16-week Internship gives you real management experience, with placements available locally, nationally, and internationally. In addition, ACHE-UWM, the student chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives, connects you to leaders in the field through symposiums and other networking opportunities.
