Welcome

Welcome to the UWM College of Nursing Website!

Whether you are a potential student, faculty or staff member, alum, friend of the UWM College or are just interested in nursing and nursing education, I hope that you will spend some time learning more about the UWM College of Nursing.

I am very proud of our rapidly growing research portfolio in the areas of evidence based practice in home care, long term care, acute care and community based practice settings. Our faculty members are national and international experts in qualitative, quantitative and community based participatory research. We are most fortunate to have a number of centers in the College of Nursing that support the integration of research, education and practice. In this way, we are able to generate meaningful research questions from practice and community settings, and translate the new knowledge developed back into settings so as to improve outcomes for specific populations.

Faculty also provide state, national and international leadership in the policy arenas of health disparities, access to care, innovative nurse anchored systems of health care delivery, nursing informatics, nursing education, and healthcare workforce issues. UWM College of Nursing centers include:

•  The Harriet H. Werley Center for Nursing Research and Evaluation
•  The Nursing Learning Resource Center
•  The Center for Nursing History
•  The Institute for Urban Health Partnerships (includes three community nursing centers)
•  The Center for Cultural Diversity and Global Health, and
•  The Center for Enhancement of Self-management in Individuals and Families

We have simultaneously continued to respond to the nursing shortage in our role as the largest college of nursing in the state by expanding access to nursing education through our three campuses across Wisconsin, located at UW-Milwaukee, UW-Parkside in Kenosha and UW Washington County in West Bend. Our innovative programs provide face to face in community settings and distance education programs. These programs have attracted a phenomenal group of students, both undergraduate and graduate, nationally and internationally.
