Welcome to the UWM School of Continuing Education. We are pleased to offer a wide variety of programs and services for adult continuing education. Our mission is to generate knowledge and learning opportunities for individuals who are interested in developing professional skills in business, technology, and human services, enriching their lives with classes in the arts and humanities, and/or simply looking for a new intellectual challenge.
As one of 12 schools and colleges that comprise the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, SCE meets the needs of participants through an assortment of courses, programs and workshops. We are an active supporter of UWMs Access to Success program, an initiative to provide higher education to the broadest possible audience. With 19,000 participants each year, the School is the largest provider of noncredit continuing education in Southeastern Wisconsin.
What makes the School of Continuing Education exceptional? Our work is grounded in the diversity, experience and expertise of our partners, students, faculty and staff. Together we implement our vision of community development by creating opportunities for learning and growth. Our success as an educational institution also rests on our high caliber instructors, whose real world knowledge and flexible approach to teaching enhance participants' learning experience on many levels.
We value our many partnerships for it is through joint ventures that we develop programs that improve and enrich the community, organizations and businesses. Public Allies, part of the national AmeriCorps, provides work experience and scholarships for young adults planning careers in the growing nonprofit sector. The Center for Urban and Community Development and Youth Work Learning Center have acquired federal grants to support their work in domestic violence, parenting and foster parenting, youth development, after school programming and civic engagement. Our Career Transitions Center offers a variety of resources and programs that support workforce development.
As we move forward, we will continue to offer dynamic programs that keep pace with the ever-evolving needs of adult learners. We take pride in how the educational opportunities we provide facilitate economic development and quality of life improvements for the community.
