Fred Delmenhorst is a former Vice President of Human Resources for the Marcus Corporation. During his tenure Marcus operated four divisions -- motion picture theaters, full service lodging, limited service lodging and fast service restaurants. These divisions employed a total of 7,000 people. Fred's initial charter with Marcus was to create a corporate level Human Resources department with oversight responsibility for each division's Human Resources operation. Previous to Fred's arrival, the Human Resources function was fragmented, with duplication of services, redundant programs and sometimes conflicting policies and procedures. Fred brought all of the divisional Human Resources functions under a corporate "umbrella" while guiding each division's Human Resources department to maintain those responsibilities that were necessarily division specific. As Fred's relationship with the various operating divisions progressed, the divisions requested his assistance in additional areas of expertise including personnel relations, labor contract negotiations, benefit plan design and EEOC and ADA compliance. With the cost of employee benefits continuing to increase and as a response to each division's having maintained their own benefit programs, Fred was charged with the responsibility of establishing cost containing health and welfare benefit programs at both the corporate and divisional level, taking advantage of the increased buying power of the entire company. In addition, the previous divisional and corporate defined benefit and defined contribution pension plans were converted into a single 401(k) plan. Subsequently, Fred was instrumental in the establishment of a corporate wide Human Resources Information System and an automated benefits administration system. With the changing nature of the workforce and the need to recruit and retain superior associates, Fred established a company succession plan, incorporating management development, gap analysis and a program to identify and develop high potential associates. Training programs in areas such as interpersonal skills, the avoidance of sexual harassment and trade union history were developed and implemented. Fred was a member of the Executive Management Committee of the Marcus Corporation and served as an advisor to the Board of Directors' Compensation Committee, with responsibility for the recommendation of senior level salary and benefit programs. Fred lives in Glendale, Wisconsin with his wife, Pat. They have two grown children, Cara and Drew. He is a graduate of the University of Louisville School of Law. He has served on the Board of Directors for the Governor's Committee for the American's with Disabilities Act, the Private Industry Council of Milwaukee and the Easter Seals Society of Wisconsin. He is presently a member of the Milwaukee County Personnel Review Board. He is a volunteer with Interfaith Older Adult Services and Our Next Generation. His hobbies include reading, travel and the pursuit of a personal physical fitness program.
