Associate Outreach Specialist
College for Kids and College for Teens
The College for Kids/Teens in the School of Continuing Education at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee is looking for an assistant program director to help in managing the UWM College for Kids and College for Teens programs. This individual should be hands-on, organized, resourceful, innovative and detail oriented. The successful candidate will join a team of energetic professionals in a dynamic, fast-paced, educational environment and should have the desire to work in a collaborative leadership environment.

College for Kids (CFK) and College for Teens (CFT) are academic enrichment programs for young students who have high academic potential, an interest in the subject matter and motivation or talent. The summer educational supplement program, now in its 28th year, consists of one and two-week classes taught by UWM faculty or highly qualified and experienced instructors. This fun and educational program attracts more than 2,000 students annually with a variety of exciting hands-on learning opportunities in computers, math, science, fine arts and humanities. CFK programs are for children in grades K5-8 and CFT programs are for students in grades 9-12.

Under the general direction of the program director, duties and responsibilities include:
  • Assisting in grant writing and fund development.
  • Managing the 'I'm Going to College' Program including obtaining sponsorships, recruiting student participants and supervising event activities.
  • Coordinating the Traveling Theater program including arranging for audition times and spaces to performance details.
  • Updating and maintaining program area databases.
  • Assisting with participant registration.
  • Assisting with program marketing including staffing appropriate family orientated gatherings and Parent/Teacher meetings; developing marketing materials such as catalog, posters, and brochures; and maintaining the UWM College for Kids/Teens web site.
  • Answering telephone inquiries and advising students and parents on course selection and program requirements.
  • Working with the College for Kids/Teens Director in developing and implementing program policies and procedures.
  • Supervising program activities and resolving conflicts and miscommunication when the program director is absent.
This is a non teaching academic staff position, fixed term, 100% appointment, renewable annually, with excellent fringe benefits including four weeks annual vacation.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree is required. Experience working with children and their families within an educational setting and the ability to work effectively with students, faculty and staff from culturally diverse backgrounds is preferred. Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills as well as strong editing skills are necessary. Ability to use computers and basic software packages as well as to lift heavy boxes and walk several miles each day during the summer is also required.

SALARY: Range 3, Hiring Range, $36,065-$38,000, based on qualifications
