Associate Outreach Specialist
The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) in the School of Continuing Education at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee is looking for a hands-on, energetic, organized, and detail oriented individual to join a team of professionals in a dynamic, fast-paced, educational environment. The center's mission is to help entrepreneurs start and grow businesses in southeastern Wisconsin, through exceptional continuing education programs and hands on technical assistance. The center offers educational activities for small business professional development through short courses, workshops, seminars and certificate programs.

The current opening is for a full-time Associate Outreach Specialist. This position will function as the first point of contact for the center and be responsible for assisting entrepreneurs as a resource on a variety of subjects related to starting a business in Wisconsin. The position will also function as a program and technical assistance coordinator, assisting in the planning, development, delivery, logistics, and administration of programs and assistance that provide practical and skills-oriented outcomes for participants. This individual will assist the center director and program manager in the day-to-day operations of the center and program areas, including scheduling of classes and instructional staff, promotion and publicity tasks, writing and editing bulletin copy and other related tasks.

This is a non teaching academic staff position, fixed term, 100% appointment, renewable annually. This position has excellent fringe benefits including four weeks annual vacation.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
  • Function as the primary point of contact and resource for entrepreneurs contacting the center.
  • Utilize internal, proprietary web based software applications to assist entrepreneurs.
  • Analyze data, develop and submit analytical reports for compliance with Federal, State, and University regulations.
  • Coordinate program related activities for all courses, with the program manager.
  • Help direct marketing activities working with the marketing liaison.
  • Collect and analyze market research data to support center marketing activities and impact reporting.
  • Manage internal databases that support center's technical assistance functions.
  • Manage ad hoc instructor activities including contracting, scheduling and preparation of classroom materials.
  • Direct activities of student employees preparing classroom materials and other program support activities.
  • Attend seminars as SBDC representative and promote SBDC activities.
  • Assist is general center operations and be willing to learn how to help people start and grow businesses.
  • Ability to multitask and work flexible hours.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree is required. Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills are necessary for dealing with program participants, team members and internal service departments. Ability to use computers and basic software packages is required. Experience working in program administration, professional training, educational planning or marketing is preferred. A familiarity with entrepreneurs and small business is a plus.

SALARY: Range 3, $36,045-45,081, based on qualifications
